A guide to Da Nang, Vietnam

Da Nang was one of my favourite places we visited in Vietnam. We had such a good time there and there just seemed to be everything there.

Da Nang is the largest city in central Vietnam. It has a huge selection of restaurants and bars, an amazing beach, and lots of accommodation options. It is also only 30 minutes from Hoi An and you have the option to do the Hai Van Pass drive from Da Nang.

When to visit

The best time to visit Da Nang is from February to May. This is when rainfall is at its lowest and it isn’t too humid. We visited in February and the temperature was perfect.

How long to spend in Da Nang

We had three full days in Da Nang which I would say is a good amount if you’re travelling across Vietnam. I could quite happily have spent longer in Da Nang. It’s one of the few places in South East Asia where I could actually see myself living. In my opinion it has everything you need!

Where to stay

We stayed in the Palazzo Boutique Hotel. This was in a great location so everything was in walking distance. The staff were amazing and it was just a lovely hotel.

Breakfast was included and there was even a swimming pool on the roof. It only cost us £14 per night!

How to get around Da Nang

We walked around Da Nang and got taxis if we needed to. It’s very much a walkable city which I loved.

There are lots of places where you’re able to rent a motorbike. If you’re wanting to go outside of the centre of Da Nang then this would be necessary. However, some of the roads are quite busy so only rent a motorbike if you’re a confident and competent driver.

Things to do

Enjoy My Khe beach- I found this surprising but Da Nang actually has a great beach. When I think of Vietnam I don’t necessarily picture lovely beaches but Da Nang certainly has this. Take your beach towel, grab some beers and chill out.

Visit Sleepy Dog Pub- this is a British ex-pat pub so if you’re a Brit missing home then this is the place for you. It’s run by a lovely couple and is always full of regulars who will welcome you with open arms!

Dragon bridge- as the name suggests this is a bridge in the shape of a dragon. It’s pretty impressive to see and is surrounded by lots of big buildings that are all lit up. It highlights the diversity of Da Nang.

Go cafe hopping- there are so many amazing cafes around Da Nang. Go cafe hopping so you can sample all the different types of Vietnamese coffee. Coconut coffee is my favourite but salt coffee is a close second!

Places to eat-

Rosi Food & Coffee– this little cafe was right next to our hotel so we went here for lunch most days. It was very affordable and the Banh Mis were delicious.

Bo’Bo Food- we ended up eating here multiple times because it was that good. The gyros were very good and the fries were even better. It was some of the best western food we had whilst travelling in South East Asia.

IRINI Da Nang- this was another Greek restaurant that was excellent. It hadn’t been open very long when we visited but their food was perfect.

What we didn’t do

Ba Na Hills Sunworld- I do wish we had done this because it looks like a lot of fun. It’s a theme park up on the hills that you get to by a cable car. We didn’t end up doing it because we were enjoying actually being in Da Nang so much but it would be on my list if I visit Da Nang again.

Golden bridge- the Golden Bridge is in the same area as Ba Na Hills Sunworld so you would do both on the same day. Again, this would be on my to do list if I visited again. The views are meant to be stunning as long as you visit when it isn’t cloudy!
